Internal renovation of an apartment in Bormio

Complete renovation with turnkey refurbishment of systems, masonry and finishes. Stratigraphy with dry materials, insulation with wood fibre insulation and fibre cement walls with rock wool interlayers.

The redevelopment and restoration of the space as a residential flat to be completely renovated was carried out in a series of phases, which are listed below.

Phase 1: Internal demolition

The first step involved the demolition of the interior elements to return the flat to its raw state. This involved the removal of internal partitions and existing subfloors.

Phase 2: Insulation Design and Installation

Next, we designed the insulation layers to create an internal cladding. Among the various options available on the market, we considered traditional insulation (EPS), low-thickness heat-reflective insulation, low-thickness nanotechnology insulation, vacuum insulation, and bio-sustainable insulation such as wood fibre. The choice was supported by technical advice from the supplier Biomarket in Talamona.

After a careful cost-benefit analysis, we chose a sustainable and cost-effective solution: applying an internal wood fibre insulation layer covered with a vapour barrier. This approach not only guarantees excellent thermal performance but also a good balance between costs and benefits.

At this stage of the work, the construction site continued with the installation of a floor insulation layer, designed to reduce heat loss to the unheated space below. For this purpose, ACTIS thermal insulation was used, which also serves as a support for the installation of the underfloor heating system. For the internal walls and false walls, a ‘dry’ structure was adopted, with rock wool insulation in between and an external cladding of fibre cement panels. This choice ensured quick installation and easy integration of the systems.

The progress of the work is then shown once the walls have been partially completed and the low-thickness, high-transmittance substrate covering the underfloor heating has been installed. At this stage of the work, the insulated internal false ceiling was also installed. At the end of the work described above, the interior finishes were completed to achieve the final result shown below. The work was carried out in collaboration with local companies and craftsmen, in particular Miotto Mobili in Valdidentro.
